I have internet at home!

Okay, so I've had internet at home for about a week now, but then I came down with the plague and spent all of my time sleeping. Or explaining things to people on the internet, but I'm pretty sure I argue with people on the internet in my sleep these days.

I'm working at walking away. The problem is that I tend to walk away into a new conversation, which then involves someone else getting into an argument.

(This is all non-anon, so if you're really curious, you can probably find it. It's pretty predictable stuff.)

Anyway! I also watched TV, too! And now I will tell you all about it.

I watched the pilot mostly because this concept makes my boyfriend froth at the mouth, and that's always entertaining to watch.

Why do combustion engines not work? Do they not have fire? How do they have a still and not a two-stroke engine? They're breaking the laws of thermodynamics! And Electricity! Electricity can't just STOP WORKING. We would die! No! We wouldn't even just die, we would cease to exist.

PHYSICS DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY.

And then his head explodes. And that's just when he sees a commercial! The olympics were pretty awesome, let me tell you.

For a while, I tried to think up some crazy explanations (this is an alternate universe where the electric engine really took off, and while combustion engines still work, they weren't very common), but after a while I just starting saying MAGIC at him every time he gets his rant up. This is just a modern fantasy with a strong emphasis on the modern part. It's all run by midichlorians.

All this frothing managed to keep it on my radar, and I was kind of curious as to what Kripke was up to these days.

Anyway, after watching it, my boyfriend asked me if they managed to explain any of it.

"No, but they did have one character point out how little sense it makes," I said. "He was the fat nerdy comic relief coward who used to work at google but now seems to be kind of useless. I think Kripke might have been trying to say something."

All in all, it was okay. There's an older sibling that is all about FAMILY and wears leather and a younger sibling that is smart but sometimes makes questionable decisions, so that's familiar. The lead has a bit of a Luke Skywalker complex, where she's kind of whiny and bland so that all the other characters can have the defined traits, but maybe they'll grow out of that. It's a pilot. They can grow more character later.

There's also some weird race shit going on. That wasn't just me, right? The militia that came to kill the father were mostly dark, the questionable lady with the magic necklace was black, the traitor love interest was Latino... and the main 'good guys' are all white. Uh. Revolution. Cut that out. And while you're at it, cut out that main character nearly getting raped but being saved by her love interest. I'm looking at you. I've seen that trope before. This is my face >:|. It is not a happy face.

Also, c'mon with the nerd jokes. A guy with a rudimentary understanding of math and physics and exposure to Fermi problems is actually a pretty good guy to have around when all your machinery breaks down and you have to invent new stuff, with very little information to go on.

But I guess I'm watching the next episode? Eventually? Maybe after I catch up with Doctor Who.

Also, there was a spoiler clip for Supernatural released, and I will now explain my feelings thusly.

OMG OMG THEY MENTIONED CAS OMG OMG CAAAAAAASSSS. WHERE IS HE WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM OMG HE ISN'T DEAD HE DOESN'T DIE FOR LONG, DEATH SPITS HIM BACK OUT. WHAT IF WASN'T THAT SOMETHING HAPPENED TO HIM BUT SOMETHING HAPPENED TO DEAN AND CAS TURNED AWAY. WHAT IF PURGATORY CORRUPTS, OR DESTROYS, OR EVENTUALLY DISINTEGRATES ALL THAT IS HOLY. WHAT IF HE ATE SOMETHING AND IT IS LITERALLY EATING HIM FROM THE INSIDE. CASTIEL, YOU KNOW TO NEVER EAT ANYTHING. YOU SHOULDN'T DO THOSE THINGS. OMG OMG WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN OMG.

That hug was pretty nifty, too.

So, what'd the rest of you think?
