Ok, so not perfect, but a lot better that it has been.

Not cool with Sam going to a hooker-not because he's too good looking to pay for sex (I was okay with Don Draper paying for it, because he was using the hooker for a very specific thing and he's got Lady Issues, to say the least),  but because of the way it was treated.  The prostitute would have done it for free, and wants to see him in his time off?  Um.  No.  And I got the feeling that they set it up that way to make it less demeaning for Sam that he paid for sex.  . . . I'm not usually worried about the John being demeaned in prostitution, Show.

Other than that though?  I liked it!

CAS.  Oh, Cas.  So inhuman and bitchy and GETTING SHIT DONE.  He doesn't have time to explain!  He doesn't have time to hold your hand! Uh, unless it's to get your blood.

It's okay.  The damage will be minimal.

HE KNOWS WHAT'S ON SECOND. 

And hee to the 'well, Dean and I do have a special bond-but I wasn't going to bring it up'.  And expecting better from his brothers-meaning he was expecting them all to be exactly like him.  And thinking he can fix everything.  Oh, Cas.

RAPHAEL.  Oh, Raphael.  I liked your vessel, but will be okay seeing you in a different visage.  So long as you're still kicking ass old school.  And your vessel gets more TV appearances or an audiobook deal (I will also take a podcast).

BALTHAZAR.  Okay, I thought it weird that nobody thought that the thing dealing in souls was a demon masquerading as an angel (that'd make the most sense to me), but I like Balthazar, and appreciate his taste in men.  He's lovely and amoral.

All of the flitting around makes me want to read fic where the Old Spice Guy is an angel. Maybe Old Spice Guy/Balthazar.

DEATH CAB FOR SAMMY (tm. . . uh, someone who isn't me,  I don't know.)  I'm sorry it's the last of you.  I was expecting him to get wrecked, but I was kind of hoping that Sam would just keep on rebuilding the car out of sheer stubbornness.  Freak accidents would keep on totalling the car, but Sam would refuse to give it up. 

But you had a good run while it lasted.

OH SAM'S ABS.  YOU ARE STILL AMAZING, EVEN IF YOU WEREN"T ENOUGH TO COMPLETELY BLOCK MY DISTASTE FOR THAT SCENE.

Oh BOILS AND SLOUGHING OFF SKIN, you're want I always wanted out of a cheap horror television show-best since My Bloody Valentine.

In short-uh, kind of meh on Sam and Dean this episode, but everything else was awesome.

The prostitution itself was really in place for the way Sam is this season, but why the exaggerated exaggerated exaggerated performance on the girl's part? And the not taking money, just no.

And Cas! He has a bond with Dean(subtle much?)! He was so very Cas; somewhere between what he was in the beginning and what he became when he got more and more human. I liked Cas.

Yeah, other stuff kind of didn't register, my head was too occupied with Sam's creepiness and Castiel's awesomeness. But Balthazar was interesting.

I really like this characterization of Cas, too-it's my favorite! I hope we can keep it.

I had a really difficult time taking Sam seriously in this episode. In that hooker scene, he was so hysterically douchey, and when he kicked down the cop's door, I was just like, "LOLOLOL WHADDUP SAM XDDDD". Stop being unintentional comic relief, Sam! Or, don't stop, because I find it entertaining. XD

Cas being back automatically meant this was my favorite episode of the season. His matter-of-fact snark is lovely. And how can you not love someone saying this with such a straight face: "I think we can rule Moses out as a suspect." I had to pause because I was dying so much.

Kind of tired of the whole "there's something dark within Sam" blah blah blah we've had to endure since S2 so I've become pretty blase and indifferent to that whole thing. But HELLO BODY. YUM.

Wished we could've gotten more Balthazar/Castiel scenes (and less goretastic plague-induced deaths), but Balthazar didn't die so I'm expecting more angel ho!yay to come.

I LOVE BITCHY!CAS. I feel like they've taken the best parts of S4 Cas and the best parts of S5 Cas and combined them into one awesomely bitchy angel who doesn't know how to use air quotes. XD

I had to switch TV's early on in the episode, and missed the locust scene! I was so disappointed! And of course, I'm like one of twelve people watching who wanted to see it. . .

So yes, I would have liked more angels and more gore, and more shirtless Sam. I'm not sure what I would have cut out. . . but yeah, they really need to get Sam a new character arc. This one's a little stale.

I really like the idea of Dean and Ben going through the journal, picking out just the right monster, and then Dean critiquing the outcome-trying to make sure it's realistic as possible
